The Band and Band names

In my music video, there are is one girl and one boy member. Therefore, the name needs to appeal to both boys and girls, as they are both my target market.
Taking in to account my target market is between the age of 16-19 years old, I had a look at the research I had done earlier, and saw what types of names the artisits had that my targt market were currently listening too...

Research suggested...

Rihanna

The Wombats

Kendrick Lamar

Green Day

Paramore

Beyonce

The Wanted

1975

One Direction

Alt-J

Kaiser Chiefs

Coldplay

 Eminem

Then I thought of some suggestions of my own.
Some suggestions:

  • The Scarlets
  • Interchange
  • All Saints
  • No Eras
  • Plan X
I then asked a group of 18 people which name they favoured and why. These were my results and some of the responses I got.

The Scarlets 5
Interchange 4
All Saints 1
No Eras 2

Plan X 7

"The reason I voted for The Scarlets was because it sounds like an indie band, and no other band has a name related to a colour that I know of. Scarlet would also be an effect name for use of advertising, as you could use the colour to advertise your brand."

"No Era's is an awesome name, and the way it is spelt is unique"

"Interchange sounds like waiting for the next plane...Plan X is good. Its simple, memorable and I think it fits really well with the indie genre."

"All Saints could be mistaken as a choir...however, it does relate to the song. I don't think that is that important though, the artists' name never really relates to the song name."

I decided on the name 'Plan B' for many reasons. Firstly, I think its is a short and memorable name that my target market could relate too. Second of all, I think that the name presents me with lots of useful marketing techniques, as I could use the 'X' for lots of different purposes. I even thought about the possibility of using it as a roman numeral/ Therefore, I have decided on the name 'Plan X'.

Next, I started thinking of some names for the album. These are some names I came up with:

  • Red Night
  • After Math
  • Cure
  • After Dark
  • No returns
I asked the same 18 people what they though of the Album names. Here were the results.

Red Night 4
After Math 6
Cure 2
After Dark 6
No returns 0

"After Dark is cool...suggests mystery."

"I think Cure is too cliche.. and After math sounds perhaps too academic...or like the 'after math' of a late night out."

"Red Night is effective, as it is uniqu. I think it will catch peoples eye, people don't normally hear 'red' night so it will catch peoples attention...good awareness of your band."

Therefore, I decided to go with After dark. I like this name the best as I think it works well for my target audience, and therefore my band and its genre. Also, it links well to the filming that I will be shooting in the dark for my music video.

I presented both of these graphs using Slideshare, which was a great software as it allowed me to make graphs quickly and efficently. I also think that they display the results clearly.

Template for Digipak

I needed a template to follow for my digpak to understand the right dimensions that I needed. I used this site:

http://www.duplication.ca/printspecs/digipack.htm

which allowed me to understand the dimensions and the layout that I wanted to use for my digipack.

I wanted to use this design as I have already worked out which images I am going to use in order to create my digpack.

Story board for Video

To help my to establish my ideas in a laid-out format, I drew each scene that I wanted to include in my Video.

This exercise was just as useful as the storyboard, but perhaps more so, as I had to physically imagine what I wanted the scene to look like, which was an effective use of planning.
Although my drawings lack detail, they have helped my establish what I want to be in each scene, and I hope that my day of filming will be a lot more time effective and organised.
